We recently discussed Windows 7, and announced that we will share our opinion regarding Studio 14 and Windows 7.
It's time to explain what JCD done and relate his experience, let's interview JCD...
JCD: "My old computer was running XP 3 with several internal and external drives. I choose Windows 7 PRO 64 bit to better benefit of the resources of the computer, mainly memory that I move from 2GB to 8GB and a new ATI HD 4870 1 GB. I install everything on a new drive. The recovery of my data caused me some trouble, resolved rapidly with good backup software. Finally, no major concern regarding all my data.
But back to basics, the re-installation of Studio! ...
My last version, Studio 14, was installed by successive upgrade from version 8. On Windows 7, I opted for the installation of the latest version, Studio 14, making sure to read carefully the recommendations issued by Declic Video (read "Pinnacle Studio 14 installation").
Then, do not forget the transfer wizard, installation of additional content acquired over the years and the service pack from proDAD, always according to the guide on our site (see "Plugins installation for Studio 14") .
I have finally checked that the drive letter are identical to my old environment, and that all files of ongoing projects have been restored. I started Studio 14 and opened an existing project...
WOOooow
, I said! No problem ...
But few minutes later, first problem: it was impossible to edit the HFX transitions. With the help of some of you, I made several manipulations to try to remedy the situation, unsuccessfully. Only Pinnacle support intervention managed to solve my problem (regeneration of the keys - keep your proof of purchase !!!). For your information, it is installed on a new disc, and of course it changed my passport, nothing unusual so far, except that ... my Hollywood FX key does not regenerate. The problem was located on the Pinnacle server (it's true that in 2008, during the initial recording of my PLUS version, the server was experiencing problems and that was one Pinnacle staff who had unlocked the situation in this time). Short after providing proof of my purchase (keep pinnacle_estore mail is sometimes useful, especially when it concerns the bill), the support just regenerated my key and all was OK.
Second problem, I lost BORIS plugin. At first I wanted to do everything by myself. I started the Studio 12 DVD Bonus (thinking I could bypass the S12 installation). Great, excepted that BORIS was not present in Studio14. So I took the risk to install version 12. Yes, you read correctly, I installed v12 after v14 and well .... no problem !! Hurra. After a transfer wizard, I used the tool created by Le Papy, everything was present and operational (See step 6 of "plugins installation of Studio 14"). Of course, before any major change, I always made a backup !!
After a few weeks, I can confirm the good behavior of Studio 14 on Windows 7 / 64 bits.
Finally, I conclude by encouraging you to look our page "What's up in Studio": it's very rich, do not forget to participate via the suggestion box, it does not cost much and can bring us so much!
See you soon ....
