Recently a friend had wanted to customize a menu. He finished most of the work himself but then ran into a little problem at the last minute. To troubleshoot the problem, I had made some screenshots ... and now that these screenshots are made, why not share them with you? Step 1 : Statement of the ProblemMy friend wanted to use the "Family - Album 2" menu buttons because he liked the shape of the buttons and he needed only 4 buttons. Only the animated background did not suit him so he wanted to replace it with a photo he had taken himself. But if you do not have the "Family-Album 2 " menu, you get another like it and it will do the same. Step 2 : Problem SolvingI then offered to provide a background color under the captions in the dominant color of the photograph. To achieve this background color, simply select a color and draw a rectangle of appropriate size. The next few screenshots that follow helped him get what he wanted and I hope it will do the same for you.
We started by changing the solid color of the face controls:
- Click on the "Looks Browser";
- Select the "Custom" tab, located at the top right;
- Select the "Solid color" button option;
- Finally, click on the "Change the Face color" button.
Selecting the "Change the Face color" button opens the standard Windows color-pick dialog.
- The first click determines the range to be used;
- The second click selects the color in the palette;
- Clicking OK selects the color (162, 149, 60 in RGB code).

Drawing the rectangle does not pose any particular problem.
- The "Rectangle" tool is selected, then draw a rectangle by holding down the left mouse button;
- The rectangle can be easily resized using the selection handles. To avoid interfering with the selection of other objects, it should not overlap with existing buttons or text (only enough to select the appropriate dimensions).
As you can see, the rectangle is created above the text and will cover the button's caption if it is moved over it.
We must therefore move this rectangle to the background, by doing the following:
- Select the rectangle;
- Open the "Title" menu;
- Select the "Layer" item;
- Click on "Background".
We have 4 buttons so we will need 4 rectangles. Now, that the first rectangle is sized and positioned in the right place, just make 3 copies of this button. The 3 buttons will be positioned automatically in the background.
Quick method:
- Select the created rectangle;
- CTRL+C (1 time);
- CTRL+V (3 times);
It remains only to put them in the right position.
The most important thing now is the selection of the right rectangle. We must be careful to select only the rectangle and not the text and button together. The "Esc" key allows you to deselect an object selected by mistake. Pressing "Undo Edit Title" will undo the last action done to the menu. By viewing this short video you will better understand the problem.
The positioning of the rectangles will be done in pairs.
- Select the first rectangle and position it below the text so it does not overlap the text;
- Do the same with the next rectangle by simultaneously selecting the two rectangles (CTRL key held down);
- Open the"Title" menu;
- Select the "Alignment" item;
- Click "Align Bottom".
If you want to keep this menu, you can save it as noted in our tutorial "Saving a Personalized Menu". Step 3 : BonusWhen you drag the pair of rectangles under the captions of the buttons, take care to place them properly the first time. As soon as you release the mouse button it will be difficult to change their position. In fact, your rectangles are then placed under the button captions and if you try to select them again, you also select captions and buttons that are grouped by default with the legends. Your movement then causes the simultaneous movement of the rectangles, captions and buttons.
| If you really had to move your rectangle, you should use the "Undo Edit Title" from Studio to return to the original position of the rectangles and start again implementing. |
