Graffiti is more than just a titler. Obviously it can make static and animated titles of all types, both 2D and 3D, but it can also add filters, film that burns, writing styles like Star Wars, ripple effects, spirals, ... In short, many things.
It comes with a library of ready-made effects that you can set any way you desire. To grasp it all at first is a little tricky, especially if you, out of curiosity, inadvertently click on the "Advanced mode" button. Do not be afraid, we'll get there eventually.
To begin with, I attempt to make one very simple thing: a title. But in a somewhat sophisticated way.
So if you're ready, let's go! Step 1 : Creating a title from an existing model
| In Studio 12, you select a clip on the timeline and you apply the video effect "Boris Graffiti." |
 |
| You click the button to edit Boris Graffiti. |
 |
The Boris Graffiti window opens and you select, in the left column, a series and a class effect from the library.
Then in the right column you select one of the effects in this category. |
 |
For example, I have chosen the ' Fade Etc " series in the category" Animated text in ".
Then in the right column I chose the "Fade in smooth" effect.
The category "Animated text in", as its name suggests, shows an active displayed progressively. In this regard, the title begins to appear on the left and displayed progressively to the right. |
Then you enter your text in the marked area. I entered " La neige est arrivée" (The snow has arrived)
You then click the "Insert Text." button. If you click on "Apply" you save your edits and you will find them in Studio 12. |
 |
| And then you see that blue light is not at all on the snow, look here and see for yourself. |
|
Step 2 : Modifying an existing modelStep 3 : To upgrade an existing effect
But if you are a little more demanding, this effect might be a little dull. So I suggest we add a little something more.
You then click on "Edit Boris Graffiti" to edit Boris Graffiti again. By clicking on "Advanced Mode", you'll find you're deafulted to Batavia 36, dark blue.
So to be alittle more imaginative, you are going to do a double-click on the "Face" track (3rd track in the window tracks). It must now be selected and colored as a light blue. It has opened a new Text window. We will use the range of styles available to us. You click on "Style palette to open the window styles palette. In this window you click the button circled in red to select a range of styles. I chose "08 bevel borders.B2d." |
| You select the entire text with the mouse. By clicking on the style in red box, your text will automatically have the attributes of the chosen style. |
 |
| Note: I have not attempted to make great art by choosing this style, I will leave this up to you… I simply attempted to use colors clearly visible for my tutorial… |
You will notice immediately that when the text is selected in the text window, its color does not reflect the change.
In addition, in the text window, taking the text font, size and color but not 3D attributes.
But against take notice that in the "Composite" (or preview) the text already has all the attributes. In the display window of Studio 12, we are still light blue because we have not yet clicked on "Apply". |
 |
| As it is an incoming text, you will not yet see it in the composite window: it's necessary to start the video with the buttons just below the composite window to see the effect animate. In the screenshot, you can see the cursor time of the composite window is substantially in the middle of the duration of the effect. |
| So if you like your effect, that's enough for today. |
 |
| You click on "Apply". Your effect will be saved and you will find it in Studio 12 for you to admire your work and continue your editing. |
|
It is rather easy to grasp, isn't it? In the next tutorial we will continue to move forward together: I promise! {Thanks to Loosecannon for the fine tuning} |

@ Gert: thanks for the information, we also see the article in November Boris News !!! That's great....
@ Party316: this is a "beginner tutorial", which explain basic principle. You can do much more than this with Boris Graffiti, and of course, we will add other tutorials with advanced possibilities. We have to begin "slowly" so everybody can learn smoothly how to use Boris. Have you had a look to latest tutorial ?

Hello Philip.
There's no photos in the tutorial. This is a clip taken from a personal family video. You can put any video with a bright background on the video track in Studio and you'll get the same effect. |

I followed your instructions on how to load Boris Graffitti from the PS 12 bonus disc. It loaded into Pinncle but it is locked. How can I unlock it? This is very frustrating. I just re-imaged my computer so there was no previous version of Boris on the computer. I entered to destination directory as instructed, opened the file then hit the transfer from PS 15 as you instructed but the program is locked.
Pat
How much would it cost to but an activation key to avoid this hassel in the future if I can't fix this. I looked for the purchase site on your website but couldn't find it. |
