STEP 1You need to prepare your background with audio and save it : - Open a new project in Studio, select the image or video you want for the animated menu.
- Adjust it to the desired length (~1 minute is a good time)
- Include the music (scorefitter ©, smartsound © or part of a piece of music)
- Render it as an DV/AVI in full screen and save it under a name like My-Background-Menu.
STEP 2
- When your movie is edited and finished, display the Studio menu album by clicking on View Menus; drop a standard menu onto the timeline.

- Open the Title editor, by clicking on
Edit Menu

- and in backgrounds, browse backgrounds, locate the folder where you saved the previously rendered video with your animated background and sound that you just created. This one will be inserted and merged in place of the Standard Menu.

- Then you can change the title, buttons, enter the names of chapters etc ... Here is an example

STEP 3
- Now that the menu is finalized, titles changed, and chapters added, you can save it.
- In the title editor (edit menu tool), click on File and Save Menu as xxxx (give it a name)
- Your personalized menu will be saved in Pinnacle\Studio 12\Menus\My menus (or Pinnacle\Studio 11 or 10\Menus\My menus) under the name you have just given it; when you open Studio again, by clicking on the View menus tab, you will find it under Standard Menus, in the folder My menu (you can work on it later or use it as it is).
- You can also save your menu in the directory of your choice by using the File menu - Save As... but you must remember the path to retrieve it later.
And here is the result ! {Thanks to Loosecannon for the fine tuning} |

Your tip is perfect. I've been trying to do this for a while knowing there had to be a way to build a personal library of menus. The key is that the "File >> Save Menu As.." is only visible if you are in the edit menu tool. Now, is it possible to save these files to post on a website or exchange with others to quickly share personal menus?

Hello Mark B,
I have slightly modified the tutorial to reflect your remark (adding that it's only visible in 'EDIT MENU Tool').
Concerning the files to be posted on a website for exchange, that's an excellent idea, unfortunately that's not so easy, because the .dtl file does not contain all the material for the menu, only the "layout". If you want to share and exchange with someone else, you also need to send the background image, any other images like buttons, etc... And the person who will use it will also need to save these various files at the same location than you. As you see, that's not so easy (it's not like HFX effect where you have an HFZ file which contains everything). We have already thought to add an exchange webpage for the menu, but since it's too difficult to restore, we give up (in addition, we might encounter some royalty problems...)

Good advice. However, it will only work in the current setup and there will be problems when you have to format/setup the OS and the programs. Anything personalised (background pictures, titles etc.) will be gone. Is there a way we can save it somewhere and have only one file, with every aspect already included in that file (e.g. as "layers") ?

Nope. But you can save all your personnalised folders and import them again in the next version. Should work....
